Behaviour Training
In our Group Class, we address several common dog behaviors to ensure that they all develop into well-mannered, confident, and social adult dogs.
By addressing these behaviors early in a group class, owners can help their dogs develop into well-adjusted, obedient, and happy dogs.
Behaviors typically addressed
Biting and Nipping: Teach puppies to inhibit their bite and redirect their mouthing behavior to appropriate toys.
Jumping Up: Training puppies not to jump on people and teaching alternative ways to greet.
Chewing: Redirecting inappropriate chewing to suitable toys and managing destructive behavior.
Basic Obedience Commands: Sit, Drop, Stay, Come, Leave it.
Socialization Skills: Encouraging appropriate play with other dogs and people, reducing fear and aggression towards unfamiliar dogs or humans.
Leash Training: Teaching puppies to walk nicely on a leash without pulling or lungeing.
Attention and Focus: Training puppies to pay attention to their owners, especially in distracting environments.
Handling and Grooming: Acclimating puppies to being handled, groomed, and examined, which is crucial for vet visits and general care.
Impulse Control: Teaching patience and self-control, such as waiting for food or toys and not bolting outdoors.
Resource Guarding: Addressing behaviors where a puppy may guard food, toys, or other resources to prevent aggression.
Barking: Managing excessive barking and teaching when it is appropriate to bark and when to be quiet.
Separation Anxiety: Introducing strategies to help puppies feel comfortable and relaxed when left alone, reducing anxiety and destructive behaviors.
Fear Responses: Helping puppies overcome fears of noises, objects, or situations, promoting confidence in various environments.
Benefits
Joining a puppy class offers numerous benefits for both the puppy and the owner.
It’s an excellent investment in your puppy's future behavior, social skills, and overall well-being.
Some key advantages
Socialization: Puppy classes provide a safe environment for puppies to interact with other dogs and people. Early socialization helps prevent future behavioral issues, such as fear or aggression.
Basic Obedience Training: Puppies learn essential commands like sit, stay, come, and leave it. This foundational training helps establish good behavior and manners.
Controlled Environment: Classes are supervised by professional trainers, ensuring that interactions are safe and positive. This controlled setting helps puppies learn appropriate play and behavior.
Confidence Building: Exposure to new experiences, such as different surfaces, sounds, and environments, helps build a puppy's confidence and reduces anxiety.
Owner Education: Puppy classes teach owners how to effectively communicate with and train their puppies. This knowledge is crucial for continuing training at home.
Problem Prevention: Trainers can help identify and address potential behavioral issues early, such as biting, chewing, or jumping, before they become ingrained habits.
Bonding: Training sessions create an opportunity for owners and puppies to bond through positive interactions, strengthening their relationship.
Consistent Routine: Regular classes establish a routine, which is important for a puppy's development and helps them understand expectations.
Exposure to New Stimuli: Classes often introduce puppies to various stimuli, like different people, animals, and environments, helping them adapt to new situations calmly.
Foundation for Future Training: A puppy class sets the groundwork for more advanced training as the dog grows, making future learning easier and more effective.
